Pico Laser Tattoo Removal
We use the most advanced Pico Laser technology with ultra short pulse duration of 300ps (much shorter than other Pico devices that are 450ps & 750ps) which allows for faster mechanical (photoacoustic)shattering of tattoo pigment without the thermal (heating) effect. This means it is much safer, less painful & will produce better results.
Three different wavelengths of 1064, 532 & 650nm provide tattoo removal on all colours & offer results in less time (approximately 6 - 8 treatments). This is due to the TRT (thermal relaxation time) of 300ps which breaks down tattoo ink into microscopic particles better than any other pico laser.
How Does Tattoo Removal Work?
Tattoos are created by injecting ink particles into the dermis. Tattoo removal by laser light works by shattering the ink particles into smaller particles which get absorbed & removed through the lymphatic system. The number of treatments required will depend on how much ink is in the skin.
Pico Vs Nano Laser
The difference between picosecond and nanosecond lasers for tattoo removal is the pulse speed. Picosecond pulse width is 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology, enabling unmatched photomechanical impact for better clearance. Traditional nanosecond lasers break tattoo ink into smaller particles (rocks to gravel), whereas the speed of picosecond lasers break the ink into much smaller particles (rocks to sand), which can be metabolised & eliminated easier, faster & with no damage to surrounding tissue.
Some pico lasers that are 750ps don’t have enough power which result in a nano speed. The PicoHi provides a consistent 300ps speed with all wavelengths, which is the highest power available on the market. This means less energy, greater results and a reduction in pain.
Types Of Tattoos We Can Treat
DECORATIVE TATTOOS - These can be either professional or amateur & can include all colours. We can fade tattoos for tattoo cover-up or completely remove them.
COSMETIC TATTOOS - Also known as permanent makeup. These can include eyebrow tattooing or feathering, eyeliner, lip liner or full lip colour.
TRAUMATIC TATTOOS - These may result from implantation of debris from an accident which have become permanently imbedded under the skin.
SURGICAL TATTOOS - These tiny tattoos are used as markers for cancer patients to align their bodies with radiotherapy machines. We understand that these miniature tattoos can be a distressing reminder of what people have endured during treatment & hence we are more than happy to remove them free of charge.
Number Of Treatments Required & Frequency
The number of treatments needed will depend on how much ink is in the skin & how deeply it was placed in the dermis. Professional tattoos will require approximately 6-8 treatments. Cosmetic tattoos can usually be removed in half that time. A rough indication of time frame will be given during the consultation.
We usually perform treatments every 8-12 weeks, allowing time in between treatments for the lymphatic system to break down the ink.
If you have a new tattoo, we recommend you wait at least 12 weeks for the ink to settle before you have tattoo removal treatment performed on it.
Aftercare Treatment
- Skin should be cooled following treatment, cold packs are recommended
- Apply Aloe Vera, Bepanthen or Stratamed to the treated area for up to 7 day post treatment
- Avoid excess heat (exercise, hot bath, sauna etc) for 24-48hrs
- Do not expose treated area to the sun for 2 weeks before & after treatment
- Redness & swelling can last for a few days post treatment.
Please note: Cost of treatment will vary depending on size & an accurate price will be provided with a full consultation.
